It was only a matter of time… you probably wish you’d thought of it sooner
Today is Beyonce’s 29th birthday! Happy birthday Ms Knowles!
On Tuesday, I posted the winner of the inaugural Shadow And Act Black Filmmaker Challenge – Ms Nikyatu Jusu – who’s already prepping to go into production of her winning short script, with the goal being to have a completed work by around the end of October, early November. But I’ll keep you up to [...]
I especially like the part where he scowls and says, “Give me another reason to kick your ass!” I fully expected him to punctuate his sentence with “muthaf**ker!” So… this must mean that the man has already given him at least 1 reason, right? Any guesses on how many reasons it takes to convince Bokeem [...]
Anyone happen to catch actress Regina King’s op-ed on The Huffington Post today, titled, The Emmys: As White As Ever?
I still really need to see Zoe Kravitz perform! Aside from a scene here and there, I can’t say that I have a good feel for her abilities, and I need to see more.
So here’s that Harmony Korine short film made as a fall campaign promotion for the high-end women’s fashion brand Proenza Schouler that I told you about last week. You can read that post in full HERE, so that I don’t have to rehash.
We already told you this was coming, so no surprises, I hope; making its Broadway debut, a production Of Driving Miss Daisy, starring James Earl Jones & Vanessa Redgrave. Previews begin in about a month, October 7th.
No interest in seeing George Clooney in the arthouse thriller, The American, or Danny Trejo slice up bodies in Machete, both opening this week?
As you can see it’s the body-length version of the photo that’s been circulating the web for the last couple of weeks, which was cropped at around their shoulders, so all we saw were their heads. Here we see the rest of them (CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE).
From producer/director Ava DuVernay (whose last effort, the BET documentary, My Mic Sounds Nice: The Truth About Women In Hip Hop, recently aired on the network) comes the feature film titled, I Will Follow.
I’ve always felt that Unbreakable was his best work, even though The Sixth Sense made the bigger splash, and raked in a heck of a lot more money. I’m usually allergic to sequels, but I’d be interested in what a follow-up to the original Unbreakable story would look like – especially after a decade.
So… apparently, Saturday Night Live (SNL) just might be getting ready to hire its first black cast member since the very dry (IMHO) Kenan Thompson joined the show 7 years ago, in 2003!
Finally, we get to see some footage from the film! I’m surprised that, at this point in its travels, a trailer has yet to be released for Raoul Peck’s latest offering, Moloch Tropical. It hurts the film in terms of audience attraction.
My last “Book To Film” post was on August 3rd; it focused on James Patterson’s crime thriller, Cross, which will be adapted as a starring vehicle for idris Elba. You can read that HERE if you missed it.
MsWOO profiled this Brit flick, titled Sus, back in March, earlier this year HERE; about 4 months later, I attended a screening of it, and reviewed it on this blog which you can read HERE.
Anthony Mackie is reportedly in talks to star alongside Sam Worthington in a heist thriller titled, Man on a Ledge.
On Sunday, we alerted you to Paula Patton’s potential involvement in Mission: Impossible 4. At the time, she was 1 of 3 actresses being considered for the female lead role, described as “a young operative” playing alongside (and likely under, and/or on-top of ) Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt.
Not so fast my friends… if you’re still laughing after Sergio’s post on this a few days ago, you might want to stop now
If you live in New York City and you missed the 4 previous screenings of Raoul Peck’s latest offering, Moloch Tropical, well, you’ll get a 5th chance to see it! Come on folks – you have ZERO excuses now!
Last Friday’s screening of Thomas Ikimi’s Legacy (which I’d been advertising on this blog prior) was a resounding success! Our best event ever, since the series (ActNow Presents: New Voices In Black Cinema) began last summer (2009); it was the best in terms of audience turnout, which obviously translates to stronger box office receipts.
The final results for the 2010 Black Weblog Awards are in, with a reported 27,000+ ballots submitted…
I’m glad to see a rush of filmmakers using Kickstarter to fund their projects, and with some success too!
Well, if you thought last month’s announcement about Rihanna making her acting debut in the Universal Studios mega-budgeted, live-action adaptation of toy/game company, Hasbro’s naval combat board game, Battleship, was all just a rumor, sorry to disappoint you, but it’s very real!
We alerted you to the possibility of this back in March, and now it looks like it’s a definite!
