Well, here it is… the first trailer for DreamWorks’ adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s novel, The Help, which stars Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sissy Spacek, Octavia Spencer and several others. The film, which I’ve already said likely represents the best possibility for an Oscar nomination by a black actor/actress this year (in Viola [...]

You see… the neighborhood where those scenes are being shot is one that is said to [...]
So… I suppose we can expect a show-down between the two. No surprise I guess… even though I wasn’t planning on seeing the film; that hasn’t changed. However, I think I’d go with The Rock over The Diesel if I were putting money on this fight. Fast Five is in theaters April 29th.
May 6th is less than a month away… given all that I’ve seen of this film thus far, and I’ve seen a bit, given all the clips and images the studio has released in the last month or so, I’m still just not sold on it. I’m ambivalent… something just seems off to me; but [...]
Check out director John Singleton running on the set of Abduction, the upcoming thriller starring teen heartthrob Taylor Lautner, also in the photo. The film focuses on a dude (Lautner) who discovers the parents who raised him aren’t his real folks, a revelation that triggers events and leaves him running for his life. Oooohhh! Lionsgate [...]
Well, I guess any concerns that the show wouldn’t go on can be relieved… I guess. King Will Smith of the Smith Family Entertainment Empire is currently in my backyard, New York City (Queens specifically), shooting Men In Black 3. The above (and below) photos were taken of his royal highness in action, donning the [...]
Nothing too special… some looks at 2 upcoming films on our 2011 radar… the Tina Gordon Chism-directed/Tyler Perry-produced We The Peeples, and Carl Franklin’s next film, Bless Me, Ultima. First, above, check out David Alan Grier and all that gray hair on the We The Peeples set in Connecticut, with one of his co-stars, Kali [...]
Courtesy of the Afro-Europe blog comes a film titled Black Brown White – an Austrian feature film about a young Nigerian woman named Jackie, on the run across the Sahara, with her son, trying to get to Geneva, Switzerland, to reunite with the boy’s father, a Swiss UN-employee. As we already know… shooting for ABC’s revamped Charlie’s Angels TV series is underway, with the first black angel, Annie Ilonzeh, who’ll play Kate, the smart and athletic ex-cop with martial arts skills. Here get our first-look at the trio (plus Minka Kelly and Rachel Taylor), on set (South Beach, Miami). Not sure what they’re [...]

Confirmed! Recall my last post about a week ago, speculating on whether Nicole Beharie was indeed co-starring opposite Michael Fassbender in Brit director Steve McQueen’s next project, titled, Shame… Nicole was quoted in a December interview, stating, “I actually have a job coming up in February with an interesting director, Steve McQueen, that we’re shooting [...]
Nothing special (click to enlarge)… Earlier this month, Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds began filming the thriller Safe House in Cape Town, South Africa. In the film, Ryan plays a CIA agent who must protect a rogue ex-agent (Washington) from assassins. The film, directed by Daniel Espinosa, should be in theaters in early 2012. [PopSugar]
Above and below, you’ll find a 3 new stills featuring Taraji P. Henson, LeToya Luckett, and other members of the cast of the upcoming sports drama From the Rough – a project we alerted you to back in August 2010. Pierre Bagley is producing and directing the project, which stars Taraji as Cassandra Turner, a [...]
I’ve been on the alert for anything related to this film – especially a trailer, clips, stills, etc – since we first profiled it in October 2009. Little has been unveiled since then – other than a few stills which we posted about a year later, last September. It just made its worldwide debut at [...]
Obsidienne’s FutureStates post a couple of days ago reminded me to post this… The trailer for Barry Jenkins’ upcoming short film for ITVS Futurestates – a series of 11 short films by up-and-coming filmmakers, commissioned by ITVS that explore “possible future scenarios through the prism of today’s global realities.” Each episode presents a different vision [...]
As already reported back in August 2010, Chris Rock is pairing up with Julie Delpy to star in 2 Days In New York, a sequel to Delpy’s 2007 indie flick, 2 Days In Paris, which she not only directed, but starred in, alongside Adam Goldbergh, as a young couple attempting to rekindle their relationship with [...]
Before Anthony Mackie hunts and kills vampires with Abraham Lincoln, he’ll be one of the men of The Adjustment Bureau. The film opens March 4th.
Since Halle Berry seems to be a topical discussion here, I thought you might enjoy seeing a whole different version of her! She joins Russell Brand, Ricky Gervais, Nick Park and JB Smoove to celebrate Bart Simpson’s animated short Angry Dad: The Move. The episode takes place February 20th on FOX. More pics below.
This is one film I’ve been curious about since it was first announced. It’s supposed to be Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s coming out party. Mario Van Peebles directed the film, titled, Things Fall Apart – a project and performance that Mr Jackson himself has said will surprise his fans and doubters! Fiddy lost 54 pounds [...]
From my inbox… what we have here are photos from the recent reunion dinner for the cast of Malcolm Lee’s 1999 hit film, and fave of many a black film lover, The Best Man. The event took place over the weekend, on Saturday, January 29th, in West Hollywood. Recall Cynthia’s post from last month in [...]
Official synopsis: Madea (Tyler Perry), everyone’s favorite wise-cracking, take-no-prisoners grandma, jumps into action when her niece, Shirley (Loretta Devine), receives distressing news about her health. All Shirley wants is to gather her three adult children around her and share the news as a family. But Tammy (Natalie Desselle), Kimberly (Shannon Kane) and Byron (Bow Wow) [...]
I’m told it’s real but unauthorized, so it might be coming down. I’d expect an authorized higher-res version to be released soon enough. From left to right: Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma Frost, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Havok, Zoe Kravitz [...]
The LA Times put together a slideshow of a whole bunch of 2011 films, posted yesterday on the paper’s website – a lot of star-driven, highly-anticipated blockbusters, and some “smaller” (relatively speaking) films. Of relevance to this blog are stills from The Help, co-starring Viola Davis, Cicely Tyson, Emma Stone, Aunjanue Ellis, and several others [...]
