Did i say i was ashamed to call myself Black? And why are you asking me if i know who Marcvus Garvey is? I am Jamaican background every single Jamaican knows about Marcus Garvey, Manley, Bob Marley etc.

It is clear that you don't get my point all i am saying is we have something in the Caribbean where people call themselves Indo-Caribbean, Afro-Caribbean or just Caribbean. What i am saying is the Caribbean history is totally different form AA's as far as racial groups, history and the culture.

I watched the program last night and there was a guy who considered himself Indio although he was Black because Dominicans are not just "Black" but they are mixed as well.

I don't think you understand have you been to the Caribbean? You are just talking about the Caribbeans you come across in your Brooklyn area but do you visit the Caribbean?

In my opinion i would like to see Chiwetel Ejiofor & Naomie Harris take on Nelson & Winne.

Please.

Stop.

Too.

Much.

AWESOME.

Acting.

Star-Power!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be more excited about viewing it.

Both actors are some serious talent who don't get recognized enough for their work. But they DO get quality projects, which I think says a lot, too. But neither are American, are they? That makes a difference, no? I think there might be a discussion on this board about that....let me find it and go 'there' and comment 'there' instead of highjacking this post any further. :P

I didn't say big. I said commercial movie. In other words JTB is not an independent film nor a historical drama. It was financed by Sony, a Hollywood studio. It's a Hollywood film.

People are not complaining about the emptiness of The Help but about the POV of the story.

I agree with you that their should be diversity in the roles black actors get to play. However, it seems like certain movies, like The Help, will get a green light faster than all the other types of scripts sitting in development hell.

I can't put all the blame on the studios. When a well reviewed movie like Talk To Me doesn't make money or a rom com like Something New doesn't money, the town has no interest in green lighting another movie in that genre. When a movie with a while male lead under performs at the box office, it's usually seen as a marketing or execution problem. For us, it's NO BLACK PEOPLE WANT TO SEE DRAMAS/ROM COMS/ACTION etc. etc.

If there were more films with black leads there wouldn't be so much pressure on the one of two movies that come out.

She doesn't need to go far away, that's just plain ridicules. What she needs is new Management. She needs someone who can fight for her to get roles like these so called whiteywoods.
