Watch Now – The Human Hair Trade (Ladies… Meet Your Hair)This short looks at the traditional practice in South India of Tonsure, the act of sacrificing one’s hair to a Hindu deity, and the business that surrounds the practice – from the tonsure halls to hair processing factories, thus giving insight into the origins of wigs and hair extensions. Good Hair touches on this a little bit. I love how the filmmaker in this case chose to present the film – no voice overs; just the images and the ambient sounds as we witness the entire process. 6 comments to Watch Now – The Human Hair Trade (Ladies… Meet Your Hair) |

So interesting. I wish many black women can see this. How one get a copy of this film?
I sent a message to the filmmaker asking that question. When I hear from him, I’ll pass the info along…
feels like we should be honored to wear their sacrifice. then, this makes me think of a hundred other things also.
Don’t most black women wear synthetic hair as opposed to human hair or am I wrong about that? And isn’t human hair really expensive, especially in wig form?
hey ash,
i think that black hollywood mostly wears real hair and everyone else wears synthetic or real. i think most weaves have to be real hair. don’t quote me though.
Great Post,
Thanks
