Trailer – “The Carter” (Lil Wayne Exposed)

This got a bit of buzz when it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January, reportedly garnering the attention of both festival visitors and film distributor execs present in Park City – Adam Bhala Lough’s The Carter, labeled “the authorized feature documentary” which looks at the life and career of rapper Lil Wayne, aka Dwayne Carter Jr., proclaimed by many as the “greatest rapper alive.” The doc includes “comprehensive and personal interviews with Lil’ Wayne,” as well as “in-depth insight from those that know him best.”

Don’t look at me for answers or approval; I know nothing about Lil Wayne, but I could point him out to you in a photograph. I don’t consciously listen to his music, other than, maybe, at parties, or being blasted from cars that drive past me. Although, I couldn’t tell you what any his tracks is called, or an album title. So, it’s clear that I’m likely not the audience for this documentary. Although, given the hype, I can’t help but be curious.

The Hollywood Reporter, stated about The Carter: “there is high commercial potential for the right distributor!

Variety called it “revelatory and kinetic.

IndieWire said it “transcends even the most accomplished cinema verite… the best film in Sundance 2009.

IFC said it’s “fascinating and artfully made.

Sounds like a “must-see” doesn’t it? It never received a theatrical release, to my knowledge, but will be available on DVD on the 17th of this month, for those of you interested.
