Watch Now – “Buppies” Episode 1 (Web Series)
Another web series making its debut today (see my earlier post to watch episode 1 of Kindred) is Buppies, which I previewed on this blog yesterday; CLICK HERE to read my preview. If you already have, then check out episode 1 below, which made its debut on BET.com about 10 minutes ago. After losing her father and being dumped by her fiancé, Quinci (played by Tatyana Ali) the socialite daughter of a Hollywood celebrity, realizes that her friends are her only real family left. This provocative and ironic series chronicles the relationship dramas of Quinci’s dysfunctional, but virtually inseparable friends as they navigate the perks and pratfalls faced by LA’s young black power elite. I episode 1, the gang throws Quinci a birthday party that turns out one disaster after the next. Here ya go. Share your constructive thoughts in the comments section below:

Enjoyable! Im interested in seeing how this develops.
I can definately get with this. Looks way better than the other webseries out there. I mean way better. Like better acting, sets, all that. And quietly its probably better than anything else on that damn bet but I would not know that for obvious reasons! Wish we didn’t have to wait a week but this is well done and good fun. Will go with it.
It’s cool. It’s lighter than I thought it’d be with the MTV vibe it has.
I’m not leaning strongly one way or the other, so I’ll check out a few more episodes.
I can dig it! And may I be a bit shallow for a moment, Tatyana looks fabulous in those dresses!!
Sooooo much better than Kindred. . . I even laughed a few times. It’s a little corny but I will keep watching to see what develops.
Not bad for a beginning. I do hope that it digs a little deeper in future episodes. I’ll keep watching though.
Hmm. Cute. Production values are good. Acting holds up. Edits along briskly. It looks like it’ll be a fun way to spend a few minutes each day. Tatyana looks lovely. Nice to see her back in something and she’s starring it too, which is good for her.
LOL!
Brilliant intro. It comes across as a little frivolous, but there’s room for a lot of tongue in cheek critiquing of the black Hollywood scene from a 20something perspective.
I Likey!!
It’s cute! Shot well, entertaining, mostly well acted. Love the product placement – y’all better work that web series budget!
I’d watch again. I’m not a Tatyana Ali fan, but like Noelani said, she’s looking really good.
It’s not bad, but I wasn’t exactly impressed either. I hate what I perceive to be lazy voice-overs. I think they try to put too much information in one episode and instead of communicating things visually they try to use voice-over as a shortcut and it becomes a narrative crutch.
I think voice-over should add another dimension to the story instead of being used as a quick and easy way to dump narrative information onto the audience. I think they could have moved the entire party scene to another episode and just used this one to introduce us to the characters and they wouldn’t have had to rely so much on the V.O.
I also think they try to introduce too many characters. Some feature films don’t have this many characters and they are trying to introduce all of these people in less than six minutes while creating multiple plot lines. It’s not impossible to do, but I think they could streamline it a bit.
