Boris Kodjoe To Star In J.J. Abrams’ “Undercovers” (”Mr & Mrs Smith” Meets “The Bourne Identity”)
Kodjoe will play Mr Bloom. Earlier this week, veteran Gerald McRaney joined the project as the couple’s CIA boss. As THR observes, Kodjoe is a bold choice for a leading man on a major network drama, from a major talent like Abrams, as broadcasters have stuck predominantly with Caucasian male leads. The role of Mrs Bloom (Samantha) hasn’t been cast yet. Does anyone think NBC and Abrams will make an even bolder step and cast a black woman in the role? I’m not confident that they will, but I’m certainly willing to be proven wrong. Either way, this could be big for Mr Kodjoe. Stay tuned… 3 comments to Boris Kodjoe To Star In J.J. It had me on the “this meets that” push, but Boris Kojoe? I’d say “Wha-” but I’ll just stay optimistic for it.
Well, most of Abrams stuff is very good, even if it’s not everyone’s specific cup o’ tea, so I have faith in this show.
Mrs. Bloom will probably be Latina, so they’ll go after Roselyn Sanchez or Leonor Varela or maybe even Paz Vega.
Is it possible that she’d be white? Maybe something for Ali Larter to go to since she’s being wasted on Heroes (so I hear at least, I gave up on that show last year).
Curtis, I gave up on Heroes after season one.
Boris is kind of a lightweight as far as I’m concerned. But maybe I’m underestimating him. Certainly I can’t see network execs of JJ going with a lead guy who is both black and a bad actor.
Bold choice for JJ and he deserves props. But shows with lead black stars on network TV almost always fail. If they cast a black actress as the wife the show will last two weeks. If they cast a white actress the show lasts four weeks. Either way it doesn’t last. But that’s the cynic in me talking.
