Vanity Fair Says There Are No Worthy Young Black Actresses In HollywoodBehold, Vanity Fair’s March 2010 issue, which will focus on Hollywood… at the center, and on the cover, as you see above: the new generation of young Hollywood starlets, who’ll likely grace our screens in coming years. Notice anything? Seriously folks… as we’ve already discussed quite a bit on this blog, where are all the young non-white actresses (and actors) with star potential who should be on this cover? Black? Latino? Asian? Etc? Surely, they could have located even one woman of color for the issue. Did they even try? All rhetorical questions, but… I mean… really! Centerfold pic follows below…

White Supremacy always in Vogue,huh?
They pointed this out on Jezebel too.
Too bad some black folk indoctrinate themselves with this moribund stigma.
I’ve racked my brain on this and apart from Gabby Sidibe & Zoe Saldana who appeared last year’s Hollwood edition, I can’t think of anyone who meets the Vanity Fair criteria.
I’m assuming it would be a Hollywood major studio film and be in either a lead or major supporting role.
The only black actress that qualifies for this cover, this year, is Gabby and y’all alllllllready know it just ain’t no way…
I think Zoe would have been great; Avatar is a MASSIVE success right now. But that’s the problem I have with that film, a black women is in a big budget film and she is a blue creature for the whole movie!!! I am assuming that all of these girls are under 30 and Zoe is 32. Cause you know for women over 30 in Hollywood they treat them like old maids.
I’ve noticed that other blogs are now following our lead pointing out Vanity Fair’s extreme “paleness”
I want to be mad but really what black actress under 30 has been given the chance to put in work to make this list?
@CInmike therein lies the problem: “…what black actress under 30 has been given the chance to put in work to make this list?”
Abbie Cornish, Anna Kendrick, and Carey Mulligan gave great performances this past year . . . we have no one for the list because we keep touting pop stars . . . and a black/hispanic . . . if you can’t think of an actress . . . it should be a wake up call. Its always the same . . . so sad.
O.K. here’s another one… Nichole Beharie from Amercian Violet. She as high profile as those other actresses of whom I have no idea who they are
Nicole Behairie was HEAT in American Violet. They coulda easily trotted Zoe Saldana back out too. You know its a mess when we are screaming for them to at least toss in a token face of color. YOu know what? Trick this stupid magazine.
As Tambay said in the post couldn’t they have found even 1 non-white person. She didn’t have to be black. How about that girl from Slumdog Millionaire, Frieda Pinto. She’s got some projects coming up. Hell throw Zoe Kravitz on the list. From all the Shadow and Act posts about her recently, it looks like she’s poised to do some noticeable things this year and next. I think if we did a little more digging we could come up with some names. It just looks like Vanity Fair didn’t try at all. And the thing is, some of the girls on the cover aren’t even that well known.
And to the person who mentioned that they wouldn’t put Gabourey Sidibe on the list, I say why not. Because she’s heavy? How could they come up with a list of next gen actresses and not mention her, after all the press she’s gotten over Precious, and when she’s probably more popular than any of the other girls.
This is bullshit and shows just how limited the scope is at Vanity Fair.
@Reg if I recall, they gave Frieda some shine last year.
I expect big, BIG things from Nicole B. as well, and as far as “we” are concerned she’s had a breakout year, and really they could’ve switched Evan Rachel Wood out and put alot of people in her place (she’s still young, but not nearly as “brand new” as the others), but you know, business as usual…
Why can’t Ebony, Essence, or Arise do a cover like this for “us”? Gabby S., Nicole B., and Rutina Westly come to mind immediately…
Out of sight and out of mind… even the for the blue gal.
Zoe Kravitz….??? I mean she’s working with “Schumaker” for the rumored-horrible Twelve
or ‘has’ worked with him. Still, she’s a young actress in bloom…who fits the Hollyweird ‘gaze’
*Schumacher….sp? sorry for the misspelling.
This is typical of Vanity Fair. Even though they had women of color in the spread cover last year, VF is still known for being lilly white. Of course if they ahd chosen all guys for this cover and all the men they chose were white I doubt the PC police (from all races) would have come out in force as they are over the above cover. Well, as long as Taylor lautner was included that is.
Totally right about the PC police AV, and with LadyBug as well. Besides Nicole Beharie, no, you can’t think of anyone else (pretty sure Saldana doesn’t fit the age requirement for this list), which yeah is pretty sad. Truth be told, why even bother to want to be included on this list. Ef this list. It’s Vanity Fair, shoot, they pay so little attention to what’s REALLY going on they had a hard time making the above list as it stands.
There are no Canadians in that photo, either! Where are the Canadians?!? DISCRIMINATION! PREJUDICE! INJUSTICE!
Couldn’t they just have found one Canadian to put in that photo?
