High Profile Films Premiering At SXSW

sxsw2010_logo1Maybe it’s just me, but this doesn’t sound like the SXSW Film Festival of old. Certainly not the one that screened films like Medicine For Melancholy and all those ultra-low budget Mumblecore flicks.

This year’s upcoming festival will premiere three rather high-profile studio flicks, including, the world premiere of Lionsgate’s Kick-Ass, which will open the festival; a first look showing of the next installment of the Predators franchise, with Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal presenting on March 12; and the world premiere of Gela Babluani’s English-language rendition of his French thriller 13, with Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Ben Gazzara and Alexander Skarsgard, starring.

The fest, set for March 12-20 will host 134 features, including 64 world premieres, and more than 80 film conference panels, which will take place during the fest’s first five days.

Anybody attending? Lemme know!

I wanted so badly to go to this this year, particularly with Rodriguez and others being there. But it’s not going to happen. Next year, hopefully I can afford it.
