Charles Burnett Directs “Mulatto” PlayKiller Of Sheep director by Charles Burnett‘s next directorial effort will not be a film; Burnett will instead be directing a play – specifically, a 1-woman show starring Juliette Fairly, titled Mulatto: A Never Ending Saga. The play, Fairley’s 3rd 1-woman show, centers on the dysfunctional marriage of a black G.I. and his white French wife, as we follow her assimilation into white American society, and the impact it has on their bi-racial daughter’s attempts to get married. As it is a 1-woman show, Fairley, who wrote the play, will be playing all the characters, under Burnett’s direction. Opening night performance of Mulatto: A Never Ending Saga is set for on August 12, 7:30PM, at the Whitefire Theatre, 13500 Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks, CA. To purchase tickets go to: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/116646 The show will travel to New York City, with play-dates to be announced later this month. Last we heard of Charles Burnett, he was working on a documentary on the life of Stanley Ann Dunham, the mother of current US president, Barack Obama. Burnett’s last feature film, 2007’s Namibia: The Struggle for Liberation, played the festival circuit, but was never properly released, despite what I heard were mostly positive reviews. For those interested in seeing he film, a commenter on a previous post on this blog, gave instructions on how you can purchase a copy directly from The Namibia Film Commission in Namibia, which you can read HERE.

It’s nice to see Juliette is pursuing her goals. I first met her on the set of a movie called The Situation.
