“Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” Short Film To Be Made Into Web Series Starring Michael Jai White

Remember that independently-made, $7,500 Mortal Kombat short film that the web was all abuzz over last summer, which starred Michael Jai White? We posted it here back then, but if you missed it, I embedded it below again.

News surfaced today that Warner Bros. ordered a 10-episode web series based to be directed by the 26-year old director of the short, Kevin Tancharoen.

Obviously not the feature-length film that many fanboys and girls were hoping for, but who knows where this could lead. First a successful web series, then a TV series, then a feature.

Or not! Maybe it’ll best be served as a web property. We’ll see…

Anyway… you’ll likely be glad to know that Michael Jai White will star in the web series, as Jax, the same character he played in the teaser short. The rest of the cast and what story (or stories) the series will follow, is still unknown, though shooting is set to begin in Vancouver next month.

Some items worth nothing are that director Tancharoen previously said that Scorpion will indeed be the bad guy if the short ever became a feature, and that he’d like to make a movie that balances the real world with the mysticism and the special powers. Maybe all that will remain in the web series?? I dunno…

Here’s the viral short film again:
