First i love how Victoria doesn’t seem to care about that run in her stocking (it’s a strange woman thing to notice), and I like her literary reference to the film. Second Zoe seems like such a nice, regular kid. I initally thought i sure hope all the dark skinned kids aren’t presented as the villains, but if the story is “semi-autographical” for Victoria then that’s her truth. I’m glad she noted the bias against films about two brown kids, when there is umpteen…whatever. Looking forward to seeing this film.
I went to see the March 13th showing at south by (sxsw). BluTopaz I was concerned about the portrayal of the dark skinned kids too, however, I agree with what you said about it being semi-autobiographical. I will also say that I don’t think you will be displeased with the image of the dark skinned kids overall. I feel like many of the characters were drawn in a complex manner. I think it’s interesting that the dope slingers in her high school were a rich white kid and “black talking” not so rich white kid. Also, this wasn’t a tragic mulatto story (thank god!). I’d be interested to hear the opinions of others on this film. I have to say that I liked this film better than Precious, if we were to compare…

Wow…Better than Precious. Interesting.
Just looked at the new Austin Chronicle, which posted SXSW film awards: the film didn’t win anything, just fyi.
Pretty sure the film showed out of competition. Only handful of “debut” films eligible.
