Watch Taraji P. Henson In Trailer For Sports Drama “From The Rough”

Finally, we have our first look at Taraji P. Henson, Henry Simmons, Michael Clarke Duncan, Tom Felton, Letoya Luckett, and others in the upcoming sports drama From the Rough – a project we alerted you to back in August last year.

Pierre Bagley produced and directed the project, which stars Taraji as Cassandra Turner, a fictional character based on the real-life Dr. Catana Starks, a former swim coach at Tennessee State University who became the first woman ever to coach a college men’s golf team. With drive, passion, and guts, she took an unruly group of mismatched kids from around the world and guided them to an all-time record at the PGA National Collegiate Minority Championship.

Simmons plays the college’s snooty athletic director who bumps heads with Turner.

Michael Clarke Duncan plays a maintenance man at the college who knows everything about everyone on campus.

No release info yet; I don’t believe it even has a distributor, though it appears to be complete. I suspect it’ll be shopped around at the upcoming Cannes film market, and should walk away with a deal. And with our own MsWOO representing S&A at Cannes this year, maybe she’ll get a first look… assuming my suspicions are proven true.

Till then… here’s a peculiarly-cut 3+ minute preview trailer of From The Rough:

Was that Draco Malfoy macking on Letoya Luckett? The young shall grow in deed. Movie looks intense.

I most certainly will be hitting the movie theater. I can’t wait! This looks really good!
This is a major barrier that was broken as far as sports is concerned and w/o this movie, I doubt I would have been aware of Dr. Starks and her story. Thankfully we get to see her story told on the big screen!
And they picked one of the best to portray this powerful women, Ms. Taraji =class-act

Sorry, that had to be the most boring and over acted trailer I’ve ever seen. The music didn’t help any.:-(

I like that this is a different movie than usual for a BW. There has been other “inspirational teacher/coach based on a true story” movies but as far as I can recall none have had a black woman starring in it.

I think it will be a good film. The music selection for the trailer didn’t fit though. Hopefully it gets picked up soon.

Excellent trailer! I focused more on the characters rather then the music. Looks interesting, can’t wait to see it in the theater.

If anyone is wondering, the name of the song is Reckoner by Radiohead ..
