On DVD – The Human Contract – Jada Pinkett Smith’s Directorial DebutAnyone catch this last year when it played the festival circuit? Jada Pinkett Smith’s directorial debut, titled The Human Contract, which starred Jason Clarke, Paz Vega, Idris Elba, Ted Danson, and Jada herself, who also wrote the script about a “successful corporate type harboring a deep, dark secret” who befriends a “free-spirited stranger who encourages him to ditch his stuffy lifestyle and live life in reckless abandon.” The film never made it to theatres, but screened at a few of film festivals, and has now been released on DVD (yesterday, actually). I have little interest in seeing it, but will give it a look, if only to see how Jada handled her writing/directing duties. The film is available for sale and rental. The film played at last year’s Chicago International Film Festival and the word of mouth was not good.
UK based readers should note that the film gets its UK Premiere on DVD on February, 22nd, 2010.
I recently saw this film it was well written and directed possibly the lack of buzz was due to unconventional casting expectations given that Jada is associated with it. This film is more for international audiences and is it not a “high concept” piece. Bravo Jada!
