Jackson Rehearsal Footage To Be Made Into A Film…?A week after his death, footage of Michael Jackson rehearsing for his 50 date This Is It tour, which was scheduled to start on July 13th at London’s O2 arena, went flying around the news networks and the internet. With over 100 hours of footage available, it would seem that a documentary movie could be in the works, as well as live albums and a pay-per-view special. According to Randy Phillips, president and CEO of AEG Live:
Although AEG was insured against Jackson’s death to the tune of $17.5 million, it spent between $25-30 million in advances and production costs, and will only receive an insurance payout if the autopsy finds that the singer died accidentally, not if it is found he died from natural causes. While a lion’s share of the proceeds will go to Jackson’s estate to help eradicate his $400 million debt, AEG should, however, also be able to make a substantial profit. AEG is also considering a tribute show at the O2 which would be broadcast worldwide and then sold as a DVD, and Phillips also revealed that, while AEG has offered full refunds on tickets bought for the sell-out concerts, 40-50% of concert ticket-buyers have so far decided to receive tickets as memorabilia in lieu of a full refund, which would at least help the company break even on its expenses. You can read a full report on The Hollywood Reporter website. Below is part of the rehearsal from 23 June at Staples Center, LA, aired by CNN, the first network to show the footage.

Best idea in a long, long time. With a limited run in IMAX then release on DVD? That’s good money.
I didn’t realize his debt was so great…just goes to show ‘you never know’. As far as this goes; I think a compilation piece of the best moments of his life from start to finish leading up to this final rehearsal would be cool. I’d go see it most def.
AEG Live is making use of the 100 hours of footage that it owns, which is rehearsal footage. AEG are the concert promoters putting on his final show and, in order to recoup their production cost losses incurred as a result of Michael’s death, as well as pay off his debts, they pretty much are limited to what already belongs to them. This particular effort will be mainly in lieu of the final concert that never happened.
