The release date for 355 has been unveiled by Universal. Shadow And Act has learned that the film will hit theaters on January 15, 2021.

The film is described as an international espionage thriller, starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger and Fan Bingbing. It is directed by Simon Kinberg from a Thersa Rebeck script. Chastain is a producer.

When we first reported on the film, it was a super hot package headed to the market at Cannes, described as having  “international agents in a grounded, edgy action thriller that aims to alter a male-dominated genre with a true female ensemble, in the style of spy franchises The Bourne Identity, Mission: Impossible and James Bond.”

The five actresses (then including Marion Cotillard instead of Diane Kruger) and Kinberg will be at Cannes to sell the film. The idea for the film was Chastain’s, who pitched to Kinberg, who directed X-Men: The Dark Phoenix in his feature directorial debut. She later got a commitment to the project from him and the four actresses.

The project hit a snag with Bingbing’s tax controversy, and then Cotillard dropped out and was later replaced with Kruger. However, it looks like the project is moving full steam ahead and is currently filming.
