Racquel Bailey, the actress who went viral after buying two billboards to grab the attention of Tyler Perry has been cast in one of his upcoming BET shows.
Initially reported by TMZ and later by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Bailey will appear on BET’s Sistas which is written, directed and produced by Perry. Shadow And Act has reached out to BET on confirmation of the news. Bailey will reportedly be in the finale of Season 1 and could appear in Season 2.
Perry initially posted on Instagram after the billboards began to trend, telling aspiring actors and actresses to not do that, saying in part “This is not the way to get my attention if you’re looking for a role in one of my shows. Please DON’T DO THIS, SAVE YOUR MONEY!! This is the third time that someone has done this. PLEASE STOP! To audition is FREE!! I’m sure you can use that money for a better purpose.”
The TMZ report states: Our sources say Bailey plays a police officer who had a past relationship with one of the lead characters. Perry was on set directing the episode in which Bailey will appear … a dream come true for her. The success of the billboard doesn’t stop there either. We’re told after it went viral, Racquel was contacted by several casting directors and got about 20 auditions … which led to booking 2 roles even before the “Sistas” gig. She has more major auditions coming up with some big-time directors and we’re told she’s incredibly grateful to Perry for giving her a boost.
Sistas stars KJ Smith (Dynasty), Ebony Obsidian (If Beale Street Could Talk), Mignon Von and Novi Brown.
According to a prior statement from the network, the series will follow “a group of single Black females from different walks of life who bond over their one common thread: why am I single? In this bold new series, viewers watch these women navigate their ‘complicated love life’ status, careers and friendship through the ups-and-downs of living in a modern world of social media and unrealistic relationship goals. The one-hour drama takes viewers on a roller coaster ride of emotions and hilarious moments that are the epitome of #squadgoals.”
