Common is in “advanced negotiations” to join Tiffany Haddish, Melissa McCarthy and Elisabeth Moss in New Line’s adaptation of the DC Comics (under the Vertigo imprint) woman-led mob drama The Kitchen.

The Kitchen centers on the wives of mobsters (Haddish, McCarthy, Moss) who take over their husbands’ businesses after they are arrested by the FBI.  It is set in the 1970s, and the wives begin running the business in an even more intimidating manner than their husbands. The Kitchen is the feature directorial debut of Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton).

Common would portray the role of FBI agent Gary Silvers.

James Badge Dale, Jeremy Bobb, Myk Watford, Domhnall Gleeson, Margo Martindale, Bill Camp and Brian d’Arcy Jame also star.

A release date is set for September 2019. Production will begin next month in New York City.

Deadline first reported the news.
