Netflix has just ordered a new, multi-generational comedy series starring Tia Mowry and Loretta Devine.

The two will star in Family Reunion, and the series has already been given a 20-episode order.

Twenty-episode orders are not new for Netflix; The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina received one when they greenlit it.

The series, created by Meg DeLoatch, “revolves around Cocoa McKellan (Mowry), a free-spirited mother from Seattle. When she and her former football-playing husband, Moz (Anthony Alabi), and their four children travel from their home in the big city to the small town of Columbus, Georgia, for the McKellan Family Reunion, they get to know an extended family they didn’t realize they were missing. Devine will play the family matriarch, M’Dear.

Talia Jackson, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, CJ Wright and Jordyn James play the McKellan children.

This will be another comedy series set for Sister, Sister veteran Mowry. She starred on Nick-at-Nite’s Instant Mom from 2013-15. It is also another comedy for Devine, who was a series regular on the critically-acclaimed The Carmichael Show. She remains at Netflix, where she has starred in the films Naked and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

As Deadline mentions, Mowry has accomplished a rare feat of being a part of three comedy series that have gone on to syndication: Sister, Sister, The Game and Instant Mom. She’s done 400 episodes of television to-date.

“We look forward to bringing families together to enjoy the hilarious and heartwarming stories of this multi-generational American family living together and discovering the importance of connecting with their roots. Meg DeLoatch has created a warm, funny and memorable extended family that we believe will resonate with audiences around the world and she has assembled an incredibly talented all-black writers’ room to authentically portray these characters and their journey,” said Melissa Cobb, vice president of kids and family at Netflix, in a statement.

DeLoatch calls the series “the most supportive and creatively fulfilling experience of my career.”

“I’m so excited to return to television, especially working with Netflix, and I can’t wait for everyone to see Family Reunion. I know my fans are going to love it!” said Mowry.

We expect the series to debut sometime next year.
