After it debuted at SXSW last year, the Julia Hart-directed film, Fast Color, has been highly anticipated.
Almost a year after it first premiered at the festival, we now have a trailer for the film, which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Saniyya Sidney and Lorraine Touissant. The film was produced by Hart and her husband, La La producer Jordan Horowitz.
Fast Color is the story of a woman named Ruth (Mbatha-Raw) who is forced to go on the run when her superhuman abilities are discovered. Now, years after having abandoned her family, the only place she has left to hide is home.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, who exclusively debuted the trailer, Hart said, “My husband and I came up with the idea for the movie when we became parents. I just felt this superhuman strength that I had never felt before when I became a mother. So, the idea for the movie came from this notion that mothers are superheroes. I realized that I’d never seen a movie where there was actually a superhero who was a mother. That was the origin of it, about these three generations of women — a grandmother, a mother, and a daughter — using their relationship with each other to understand, and accept, and use their powers.”
