Janelle Monáe is the star of an upcoming Lionsgate film by activist filmmaking team Gerard Bush + Christopher Renz, according to an exclusive report from Deadline. The film will be the duo’s debut as feature writers and directors.

Virtually nothing is known about this film or Monáe’s role, but we can expect the movie to tackle social issues. According to Deadline, the filmmaking team has worked with organizations such as Amnesty International and the MLK Memorial Foundation as well as artists like Jay-Z, Harry Belafonte, Michael B. Jordan, Michael K. Williams and Danny Glover.

The film will be produced by Ray Mansfield and Sean McKittrick of QC Entertainment. Lezlie Wills and Zev Foreman will produce.

This film is bound to be one of Monáe’s biggest gets when it comes to her acting resume. Monáe has already secured her spot in Hollywood with roles in MoonlightHidden Figures and Welcome to Marwen. Monáe has also entered the visual album arena with her latest “emotion picture” Dirty Computer, co-starring Tessa Thompson. Along with this mysterious film, Monáe will also star in the upcoming Gloria Steinem biopic The Glorias: A Life on the Road.
