The Mr. and Mrs. Smith series starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine has gotten a new release window at Prime Video.

The streamer has announced the series will come to its platform in early 2024. It was first expected later in 2023 and appeared in a sizzle that was released in July with a slew of other titles.

Glover and fellow Atlanta producer Francesca Sloane are executive producing the series that gives a new take on the 2005 New Regency film starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

This time around, the married couple isn’t one that finds out that they both secret agents–they start out as secret agents who have been paired together and must stay together for better–or worse. According to the official description:

Meet the Smiths: Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners—in espionage and in marriage. Matched by a mysterious agency, each episode follows them on a new mission and new milestone in their relationship. When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.

As reported in 2022, Sloane will also serve as showrunner, with New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer executive producing. Wells Street Film’s Jenny Robbins will also executive produce.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally supposed to star and executive produce opposite Glover, but left the project in 2021 due to creative differences. At the time, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Waller-Bridge and Glover “remain friends following what was described as an amicable split.”

Erskine, best known for PEN15, was reported as replacing Waller-Bridge in 2022. Michaela Coel, John Turturro and Paul Dano have also been reported as joining the series’ cast.
