Amber Riley is set to be the lead of Dream, an NBC comedy series in development.

She would headline the series, a single-camera comedy in development at NBC from black-ish writer-producer Lisa Muse Bryant and Neil Meron. It is set at Universal TV, where Meron is based. It is a reunion of sorts for Meron and Riley, as she starred in NBC’s The Wiz Live!, which he produced.

The logine: When her son graduates from college, former teen mom Dream Morgan (Riley) turns her life upside down to pursue her dream of becoming a singer.

Bryant is the showrunner and executive produces with Meron and his producing partner Mark Nicholson. Riley is a co-executive producer.

Riley recently released her self-titled, debut EP under the Riley mononym. She recently starred in Tyler Perry’s Nobody’s Fool and ABC’s The Little Mermaid Live. She was in the West End revival of Dreamgirls, wining the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
