Bridgerton is back, and quite frankly, it is better than ever in the form of the prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

While the OG series making strides as far as diversity in period pieces, this series takes that a step further as we get the origin story of Queen Charlotte.

The prequel series focuses on Queen Charlotte’s earlier years as she cements her power and influence in Britain. According to the logline:

Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, the prequel “tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”

Shonda Rhimes herself served as the showrunner for this project and created it. This series, along with Netflix’s Inventing Anna, mark the first two occasions since Scandal that Rhimes created and wrote on a project from her company, Shondaland.

With themes such as racism, mental health and more at the forefront, the six-episode season is jam-packed with rich content.

Shadow and Act spoke to series stars India Amarteifio, Arsema Thomas, Corey Mylchreest, Golda Rosheuvel, Sam Clemmett, and Freddie Dennis about all of this and more.
