Romany Malco has been tapped to star in the semi-autobiographical comedy based on his Think Like A Man co-star Kevin Hart’s life and stand-up material, which ABC ordered a pilot for last month.

The comedy will give audiences a candid look at the life of a couple after their divorce, as they try to rebuild their relationship as friends, for the sake of their children.

The project hails from the writers and producers of Community and ScrubsNeil Goldman and Garrett Donovan

Hart isn’t expected to appear in the series, although, although an occasional guest-spot may not be out of the question (assuming the series is picked up after the pilot is made).

Hart will exec produce along with 3 Arts’ Dave Becky, Goldman, and Donovan.

This news comes a couple of weeks after ABC ordered a pilot for Kenya Barris’ half-hour scripted comedy titled Black-ish (also based on Barris’ own life) starring Anthony Anderson, written by Barris (The Game), and produced by Laurence Fishburne’s Cinema Gypsy production company. Fishburne will appear in a recurring role as Anderson’s father.

The network (owned by Disney) has certainly been drawing on African American talent to stock its future lineup. Including the above 2 from Hart and Barris, new projects from rapper/actor EveShonda RhimesKeenen Ivory Wayans, and Sheldon Candis are also set up at the network that currently boasts Scandal as one of its big hits!
Assuming all or even most of these projects are ordered to series, ABC will likely draw a significant black audience whenever the time comes. Black audiences are being catered to by TV networks all of a sudden. I pondered the possibility of that HERE if you missed that post.
