Aside from Jack Jack and Edna Mode, one of the standout character in The Incredibles movie franchise is Lucius Best, Mr. Incredible’s best friend who goes by the nickname Frozone. Back in 2016, Oregon based-artist Crystal Hill posted an image she crafted of an imagined version of Frozone’s family on the art site DeviantArt, aptly titled “Frozone Family.” Two years later, with the commercial and critical acclaim of The Incredibles 2, the fan art took off on social media, with many online clamoring to comment for Pixar to produce a Frozone spin-off as a result.


In an interview with Shadow and Act, Hill told us she did not look to far for inspiration for the character, in fact the absence of Frozone’s wife, Honey, spurred the creation of the artwork itself. “The inspiration simply came from that one conversation we get in the first movie between Lucious and Honey,” Hill told us. “She only had, like….three lines and yet she was probably the most entertaining character in the movie. I thought it was a shame we never got to see her.”

The absence of Honey in The Incredibles 2 has drawn some much jusitifed criticism, in large part due to the lack of inclusion regarding more black women in animated motion pictures.

During a discussion about including more people of color, Brad Bird, the film’s writer and director, addressed his creative decisions regarding Honey. “She’s funnier as a voice,” he said, according to Heroic Hollywood. “We actually went through all the trouble of designing a character and the design appears in the movie but not as Frozone’s wife. We have used her design and she is a hero but there’s not a lot of screen time though.” If Pixar’s in need of someone to design a the character of Honey, it might be wise to get into contanct with Crystal Hill, who took it upon herself to design her own interpretation of Frozone’s family in hopes that it will rectify issues on inclusion.

“So being someone who will design a character at the drop of hat I thought it would be fun to come up with a face to go with that voice,” Hill said. “And then once I designed her……I couldn’t stop. I thought, if he’s a married man, maybe he has kids too.”

On her piece on DeviantArt, Hill crafted a short piece of fan-fiction that serves as a great pitch for what would be an excellent spinoff film revolving around Frozone’s family, with an origin story as to how Frozone met his wife, Honey. In Hill’s piece of fanfiction, Frozone fell in for his wife, Honey, at first sight and showed off his superheroes as a way to impress her. Frozone and Honey eventually fell in love and got married. They had three children: Ember, Tyson and Brooke, all of whom have their own unique set of superheroes. Ember is equipped with the power to set things on fire, Tyson is the “quiet and fairly reserved” middle child with a “special connection to plant life” and Brooke possesses to ability to control air currents and pull moisture out of the air.

In case we haven’t made it any clearer, in the event that the powers-that-be at Pixar considers making an Incredibles spinoff revolving around Frozone’s family, it would be wise to bring Crystal Hill onto the drawing board.
