In the wake of its surprise cancellation on Netflix, the television series Warrior Nun is finding new life.

In a YouTube video posted on August 15, executive producer Dean English revealed that the fantasy drama series will return as a trilogy of films. 

“I need to start by thanking all of you loyal fans. It’s because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories. You guys really make it all worthwhile. So thank you so much for your continued support,” English said. “I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.”

English’s announcement comes on the heels of series creator Simon Barry’s post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on July 28.

“Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts — Warrior Nun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine,” Barry wrote on June 28. “More details to come! SOON! Thank you!!” 

According to The Hollywod Reporter, Warrior Nun’s resurrection won’t take place at Netflix. Discussions between the show’s rights holders, English’s Perfect Circle Productions and Productivity Media took place at the time of Barry’s announcement.

Based on the comic book character Warrior Nun Areala by Ben Dunn, Warrior Nun chronicles Ava Silva (Alba Baptista), a formerly deceased 19-year-old woman who embarks on a journey fighting demons after she is resurrected with a divine artifact embedded in her back.
